The bigger problem - with specific regard to the advertising reaching you - is the cost of advertising on radio. Bands are forced to use gig guides or Guerrilla Marketing to get the message out. SA radio doesn't really care abut the listeners, the advertisers or the communities - and frankly, none of them are making a killing either.
Ask any local band or their record labels how much effort they have to make to get any song play listed. The program managers are completely out of touch with the community, and our media owners give zero real support to local acts.
Brilliant band by the way. Well done boys.

I was actually going to say that myself - non-existent advertising. Someone did say that it was on 5FM, but not as a paid advertisement, so if you missed the gig guide, that was it.

The problem with 5FM is it's a national radio station, and not geared towards Cape Town specifically. We definitely need a decent Cape Town based station. (<em>Don't even try pull a "what about Good Hope?", you Nigel Pierce lovers</em>)

Just check out the list of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_radio_stations_in_South_Africa#Western_Cape.2FCape_Town" rel="nofollow">Western Cape radio stations</a>. Either rubbish or community radio stations.

If I think back, the crowd was pretty decent, I just thought it could've been so much more...

Wow, cool! I think I saw these guys on M-Net too a while back. I would have digged to have been there!

You ask where the crowds were? Well, I say bad or non-existent advertising! I must admit I have not been listening too closely to the radio lately, so maybe I missed 5FM's gig guide or something, but I dunno... I can't see any reason why people would not have come if they knew about it. They're awesome!

I think SA needs to figure out some more creative ways of announcing great shows such as this. I mean, though I hate to admit it, I went to Ronan Keating the other day at the Belville Velodrome, and the turn out was not as big as I expected. I know of people who absolutely love Ronan Keating, and never heard a single announcement of his show. And hey, it was a good show!

Maybe it's just a Cape Town thing? I think this is quite possible, seeing as we don't have a decent radio station here reaching the 18 to 35 year old market. 5fm plays too much hip hop, rap, r&b, and kwaito for me. KFM is for the 65 to 165 age bracket (most of the time), and we have no other options... so we don't hear the gig announcements cos we don't listen to the radio! Oh for a Highveld by the sea...
