I read around 100 blogs in my RSS reader, Bloglines, and since I was away last week in Windhoek on work, I didn’t have the time, nor inclination to catch the happenings on the blogosphere.
So today I logged in and saw more than 700 unread items and realise what a waste of time it would be to try and get that number to 0. That is the type of person I am. My inbox must always be 0 unread emails, my RSS reader must have 0 unread posts, my Facebook account must have 0 notifications etc. I like to always be on top of things, but I have just decided that blogging is something I love doing, I just never have the time to do it. Why do I never have the time to do it? Because I’m always freaking reading everyone else’s blog! I know so much about social media, Web 2.0, the latest happenings on the Web, SEO, Web trends and the next big “internet” thing, but I never share it, because I am always reading, and not writing! Well I like to think I know a lot. ;-)
Another thing I want to do is meet up with the likes of Dave and Mike of Cerebra at a 27 dinner, chat to Tyler Reed, or interview Adii, but I just feel that I don’t have the time to do it. But if I really wanted to make the time, I could! (These few ideas are obviously only possible if these okes actually wanted to chat to me! But I reckon I’m a nice guy, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem. ;-) )
So stuff this. My Bloglines account will from now on always have unread items in it. Yes, some content will go stale, but as long as I manage the process, then things should still be edible when I get around to consuming them. What this means is that I am going to start taking proper time to read those unread posts, and the minute I have something to add to the conversation, I will close Bloglines and either blog, comment or share that link with others. Yes, some blogs you just skim across, since 1 or 2 of the posts are not of much interest, but when I start to think about what I just read, that means action time.
Oh ja, this blog also needs a redesign, but let’s leave that for another time shall we?
