Chelsea and my Champions League Final heartbreak

I am totally gutted after last nights Champions League Final. I’m heartbroken and really struggling to even muster a smile today thats how painful that loss is.

The game was a great showpiece of how the English Premier League has improved over the past 2 seasons and is by far the best league in Europe at the moment. Did Manchester deserve to win? Probably, but if Chelsea had taken it, I think we could easily have said the exact same thing. For any cup final to be won or lost on the luck of penalties is really awful. Especially if you consider the one player that by far wanted to win that game more than any one else – John Terry.

John Terry in tears

What was even worse is that my Fiance, who is a huge football and John Terry fan, plane flight from Namibia was delayed by 2 hours and she missed the entire game. She landed just as the penalties started and I gave her running commentary – she is just as heartbroken.

There were moments of controversy, moments of glory and moments of tears, but all in all, it was a fantastic display of football, for Chelsea supporters, Man U supporters and even the neutrals.

The boys did us proud out there. Terry, Lampard, Ballack, Makelele, Essien, Joe and Ashley Cole get special mention for their big effort I felt they put in last night. They gave everything for the cause but the footballing gods just weren’t on our side last night.

Me? I’ll get over the loss (eventually). I won’t forget the pain and the way we lost the game, but I will be here next season shouting Chelsea! Chelsea! Chelsea!

Keep the blue flag flying high!

Its a shame, I’m also gutted today, can hardly focus. My gf and I broke up and that didn’t even hurt as much. I think drogba should go, if he wasnt sent off terry wouldn’t have had to step up to take one. Have you seen drogba’s scoring record for the past few seasons, not impressive.

I didn’t watch the game. Man Utd and Chelsea games bore me to death, simply because neither of them were playing Liverpool. I would’ve liked to see Mr. Terry lift the cup, but hats off to Man Utd.

Hmmm… I was indifferent but leant my support last night towards Man U more out of family loyalty than anything else.

That said, I am a fan of any sports spectacle and this was a spectacle. To be honest the game wasn’t the best – the football was a bit stunted and stoccato and other than the two ‘keeper’s respective saves and Terry’s phenomenal reflex header to deny Giggs, moments of greatness where few and far between.

This I will say – these are two very good, very passionate teams that were clearly closely matched on the neutral Russian turf. I believe Man U could’ve taken the game away early on the momentum created in the latter parts of the first half and then Chelsea had the terrible misfortune of hitting the woodwork twice. I thought the ref did a better than average job.

I can only say I feel for Terry. Once a game gets that far down the line you start to feel in your gut that the conclusion will cause excruciating disappointment for someone… this was unfortunately not his moment, but there will be more…

@Mario – tell me about it. It truly did feel as if someone had died. Breaking up with your girlfriend.. naa, that would never feel worse! ;-)

@Tyler – go fly a kite my boy. Lucky for you there is no space in our magnificent midfield for Mr. Gerrard, else he would be here in a flash.

@Mike – I think I was slightly biased towards the game being great, but one thing that does stand out is the final was contested by the best 2 teams in Europe at the moment. With regards to Terry, he will be back stronger than ever. If ever there was a bigger man to lead Chelsea and England (if they qualify for anything!) its him.
