    Polaroid!

    Screw you Vista

    4 September 2008  Rants

I was pretty nice in my last post about the whole Mac vs PC thing, but this evening that all changed. I logged into my Vista machine, and it had an update for me to install. So, as I’ve had to do every week, I just install the update - but this one was a biggie - Service Pack 1. All seemed fine, until the restart that we all come to expect from Windows…

No longer does Vista boot up. No longer does Vista boot up into safe mode. No longer does Vista recovery actually recover or “repair” Vista. Vista is totally screwed, and there is exactly 1 thing left to do. Reinstall. Since when is this acceptable? Why do people actually put up with this rubbish?

So, from this moment onwards, I don’t care about you and your Vista problems. Don’t even try and sell me the fact that M$ has the market share and the world revolves around them and I shouldn’t write them off. Don’t tell me that we need to embrace Vista as XP is no longer being sold. I don’t care. The only thing I suggest for you sorry souls running Windows Vista is 1: screw Windows all together and get a Mac, or 2: Beg, borrow or steal a copy of Windows XP and stick with that.

There are only 3 operating systems that are stable and actually usable - sucks to be you if you run any other OS.

    1. Mac OS X - 10.5.4 - released mid 2008
    2. Ubuntu Linux - new version released every few months - 2008
    3. Window XP - Released in 2001 - old and reliable, just like your dad’s 1985 Toyota corolla.

Screw you Vista. You have taken away so much of time that I could of spent making money, watching tv, spending time with my better half, drinking, braaing, playing Nintendo Wii… The list goes on.

    </end rant>

Vista has done for Apple what Apple could not even do for Apple… Make people run to them from M$ and never look back ;)

Haha. DOS, chinas. I still have a machine running Windows 3.1. Fire it up now and then to play Monkey Island.

    That truly sucks the bucket!

I’m sticking with my XP for now. My next PC will most likely run Ubuntu, but I’m not switching to Linux until Google Chrome runs on that OS.

Mac will never be an option for me. Unless they open source their operating system.

Ditto for Windows actually. If they decided to open source Windows, my desire to drop Microsoft products would change over night.

Another one of Microsofts efforts gone wrong. I fear that they try to hard to be like the other guys with fancy buttons and windows that they have forgotten about the core.

Reminds me of Adobe - http://dearadobe.com/top_rated.php

Anyway - now most machines that ship with a pre-installed versions of Vista have XP downgrade disks bundled.

I’m also stuck on a ball of shi* Vista operated laptop that I expressly requested XP on. When I got it with Vista I thought I’d give it a whirl, and now more than a year later, I would say that XP is still better.

Booting up and reboot times alone, not to mention the power management, the resource usage, the crashing of apps, the limited ability of their built in apps. etc. etc. I can’t even write a disk on my Vista machine. I have to put them on my desktop machine and write from there.

Ubuntu would be great if I could run my Adobe apps on there, so until then, it looks like Mac for me. Once I can afford another laptop.
