Every single day, people do things for the very first time. You also learn new things everyday, and that’s what makes life so awesome. And my blog is no different. Things happen to your blog/website almost every day for the very first time. Heres a couple of things that have happened to my blog for the very first time… Read More
The year in cities
This follows Jason Kottke’s meme on the cities he visited in 2005. South Africa doesnt have that many cities, so I’m listing some of the “interesting, but not classifed as a city” towns I visited as well. :-)
Cape Town
Wellington
Stellenbosch
Gansbaai
Hermanus
Barrydale
Langebaan
Johannesburg
London, England
Porto Santo Island, off the coast of Madeira
Funchal, Madeira
Câmara de Lobos, Madeira
Santa Cruz, Madeira
*All places are in South Africa, unless stated.
Compared to Kottke’s list, mine is terribly short. Hey, I don’t travel for my job, so these a mostly holiday destinations! :-) Ok, now its your turn…
New Year’s resolutions
It’s the 6th of January, and you have probably failed most of your New Year’s resolutions by now, hey? What you didn’t know was that you probably set yourself up for failure even before you started.
New Year’s resolutions are mostly about being a better person, and to change human behaviour to become a better person is as difficult as it is to beat the Australians at cricket. Small steps is what is needed, so give these a try, and changing might not be as difficult as you think… Read More
Online Shopping
Online shopping in South Africa was definitely late-in-taking, and to a certain extent people are still wary of buying goods online, but after a bumper 2005, were online sales figures up from last year? I’m almost certain of it. South Africans are becoming more internet-savvy, and buying goods online has almost become as normal as jumping in your car and driving down the road to the local shopping mall. Read More
Christmas 2005 and beyond
Merry Christmas to all, I hope you had a real good time with family, presents, food etc. I did. The food was great, and the company even better. My extended family are a swell bunch, and theres always something to talk about, joke about or call someone a “FREAK!”
The one thing I noticed about Christmas this year was that people have caught on to the fact that those cheesy Christmas SMS’s that get the “send to all” treatment, are lame and that personalized SMS’s are the order of the day. It made me actually think about the person who sent the SMS and their message rather than scream out “SPAM” at the “pass-me-along” message.
… and beyond
So its on to New Years in a couple of days, and 2006 will be upon us! What a ride 2005 has been. It was my first full working year, after quite a rough 2004 job wise. I started a website named after myself, learnt about how to make money from this internet thing, made online friends, went overseas for the first time, turned 21, became Catholic and bought a (new) car. All in all, I’d give 2005 an 8/10 rating in the “Life of Jason Bagley”. :-)
Quite an eventful year, don’t you think?
I’m hoping 2006 is going to be as eventful as 2005 was, and I hope the best for all of you. As Sasha always says, “Have a good one. If not, have a great one.”
