The Umbrellas

You see, at a picnic people bring umbrellas. So when you decide to put up your umbrella, people behind you cant really see the stage.

So I want to edit the clips I have, add some text, pointing arrows, a couple of spotlight effects etc and iMovie on my Mac doesn’t seem to cut it. It’s great for basic editing, but for something I would think was simple - like adding an arrow pointing to someone, or positioning text, iMovie really looks lightweight.

I like the ease of use that iMovie offers, but need something with a little more flexibility.

Any suggestions?

My girl broke up with me a week ago. She told me that she slept with a guy this weekend. Turns out that he’s also a mate. No, “ex-mate”.

My world is a bloody mess atm and well, I have done all the self-help reading I can. They all say the same thing - distraction. This concert would be the most epic distraction. I have mates going, but due to my girl moving out - I’ve had to pay double rent this month and am really $$ buggered.

To say that I’d appreciate the tickets (hell, ONE would do) would be the understatment of the year!! In fact, I only want one! If I win your comp. you can give the other ticket to another blogger :)

I really felt sorry for the guy and really wanted to give him the prize directly, but I thought I’d let the competition run its course and see…

Here are some gloomy pics from yesterday’s trading.

Jacob Zuma, who is almost guaranteed to be South Africa’s next president, has brought about this sudden shift in change and definitely has some South African’s are worried.

Am I worried? Not really.

Yes, Zuma doesn’t have the best of track records, but think for a second about Mbeki. He doesn’t think HIV causes Aids, is best friends with Bob Mugabe as well as says that there is absolutely no problems in Zimbabwe, did nothing about the corruption involved in the arms deal (probably because he or his friends are involved), didn’t take a big enough stance on the xenophobic attacks, doesn’t think crime is a problem in South Africa and generally is hardly ever here - always traveling and wining and dining with other world leaders.

So, I’m thinking good riddance, but in the same breath, wondering about how Zuma, when he becomes president, will react to these issues.

Then, I take a look at the MP’s that have resigned. The only guy that actually is worth anything is Trevor Manual and his spokesperson has come out as saying he is willing to serve under any role in the next government - so don’t be surprised if he isn’t back as our Finance Minister in a couple of months time.

The other MP resignations:

• Defence: Mosiuoa Lekota (can you smell arms deal?)
• Minister in the Presidency: Essop Pahad
• Intelligence: Ronnie Kasrils
• Correctional Services: Ngconde Balfour
• Public Enterprises: Alec Erwin (well done on the Eskom debacle)

• Public Works: Thoko Didiza
• Provincial and Local Government: Sydney Mufamadi
• Public Service and Administration: Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi

Do any of these people inspire confidence in South Africa? I don’t think so. So once again, I say, good riddance.

Markets

What with all this news, the JSE and exchange rates are way down, but go do yourselves a favour and check the global markets. They down as well. Yes, our local markets are down because of all the instability at this time, but there is a bigger picture. (Have you also never seen the markets crash and recover before?)

For me, I’m pretty much staying positive about this whole situation. Time for some new faces, new policies and new leadership. For those of you that were thinking of immigrating overseas, today marks the day you have made up your mind and are leaving.

So are you staying positive about SA or are you telling anybody that will listen that we heading into the dump and are about to emigrate too?

What is Heritage Day?

So go and celebrate being a South African and light a braai 4 heritage with your friends and family on the 24th of September!

There will be 26 bands / artists as well as 22 DJ’s playing over the 3 day event along with the Comedy Revolution to keep people entertained. Rocking the Daisies is also South Africa’s 1st carbon neutral event, so there are tons of initiatives like using recyclable paper for the tickets and biodegradable soaps etc.

The event is being held at the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling and your ticket includes access to the festivals camping areas.

5 things I would bring along

1. Good company - preferably my Fiance Karina!
2. Tent - you need a roof over your head at night
3. Flashlight - for those late night bathroom breaks
4. Camera - for the memories and to upload to Facebook
5. Money - for food and drinks!

No longer does Vista boot up. No longer does Vista boot up into safe mode. No longer does Vista recovery actually recover or “repair” Vista. Vista is totally screwed, and there is exactly 1 thing left to do. Reinstall. Since when is this acceptable? Why do people actually put up with this rubbish?

So, from this moment onwards, I don’t care about you and your Vista problems. Don’t even try and sell me the fact that M$ has the market share and the world revolves around them and I shouldn’t write them off. Don’t tell me that we need to embrace Vista as XP is no longer being sold. I don’t care. The only thing I suggest for you sorry souls running Windows Vista is 1: screw Windows all together and get a Mac, or 2: Beg, borrow or steal a copy of Windows XP and stick with that.

There are only 3 operating systems that are stable and actually usable - sucks to be you if you run any other OS.

1. Mac OS X - 10.5.4 - released mid 2008
2. Ubuntu Linux - new version released every few months - 2008
3. Window XP - Released in 2001 - old and reliable, just like your dad’s 1985 Toyota corolla.

Screw you Vista. You have taken away so much of time that I could of spent making money, watching tv, spending time with my better half, drinking, braaing, playing Nintendo Wii… The list goes on.
